简介: 民国初年，青河镇善余堂药铺的老板佟善群的女儿佟庆留洋归来，回到了青河镇。佟庆生性豪爽，并且接受了许多先进思想，所以对父亲成天挂在嘴上的礼教伦纲嗤之以鼻，她决心改造佟家，打破这许多年来男尊女卑的传统，将佟家从封建礼教中解脱出来。佟善群一直希望佟家能够赢得一个贞节牌坊，他把希望寄于守寡多年的弟媳其贞的身上；十八岁的方瑾嫁到佟家当童养媳，然而小丈夫却夭折，也成了寡妇，于是其贞和方谨被要求一起守节。在佟庆的带领下，三个女人联合起来，对抗封建，终于找到了各自的幸福。佟善群众叛亲离，最后落得个疯癫的下场，而曾经代表着妇女压迫、人性压抑的贞节牌坊在人们的心中也轰然倒塌了。
