简介: 二十世纪五十年代，年轻的转业军人张北星被分配到黑龙江省大兴安岭山区的一个小气象站，这里的老站长赵清山和他年方二十的女儿雁儿，热情地接待了他。老站长那种热情忘我，一丝不苟的精神，深深的感染了他，使他对气象站的工作产生了浓厚的兴趣。这时广州老家的女朋友南楠专程赶到这里，希望他能调回广州工作，离开这人烟稀少且荒凉艰苦的老山林。心爱的人对他这种要求按说并不过分，但他已离不开这块土地了。突然，一封电报从天而降，他的父亲病逝。张北星痛苦万分，与南楠风雨兼程，回广州奔丧。面对孤苦伶仃，体若多病的老母亲，张北星再一次面临选择。
