简介: 出生于巴宁府落魄秀才家庭，自幼受诗礼熏陶的“兴隆”商行巴宁油坊的桐油小工高乾生，在油坊做工期间，不仅练就强壮体魄，而且体验到人生五味，故而为人正直机敏，行侠仗义，之后跻身商界，发展至巴宁首户。他一生中与青梅竹马的农家女桐花、袍哥大爷的女儿玉香、知书达理的“兴隆”帮办青莲小姐，这三个女人之间发生了曲曲折折、悲悲喜喜的爱情纠葛。最终桐花为了救他，不惜出卖了自己的丈夫，导致精神失常；玉香为了跟上丈夫的脚步，弄巧成拙，为了让丈夫生生死死的记住她，最终与丈夫的敌人同归于尽。
