简介: 1920年代，贫苦农民沈川儿带着年仅6岁的女儿若男（朱晨迪）来到大上海投奔亲友巧珍（曹翠芬），期望能在遍地黄金的十里洋场谋得一份口粮，经人介绍成为一名车夫后，他拼命挣钱供爱女读书，却还没在上海站稳脚跟就含泪离开了爱女，孤苦可怜的若男被巧珍收养。成长中，若男尽其所能学习谋生的本领，表现出顽强的毅力和韧性；长大成人，若男（李羚）则竭尽全力支撑家庭，不惧生活的任何挑战——在好心人的帮助下，她从裁缝店的学徒做起，白手起手创建了自己的事业。而由于时局动荡，她与阿祥（谢园）、黑皮（何伟）的爱情故事，也同她起起落落坎坎坷坷的事业一样，扑朔迷离让人心惊。
