简介: 年老的米商女儿忆述起她在年轻时遭遇的一段经历，这段经历正处在香港沦陷前后，从一个最特别的黎明开始。自幼在戏班中长大的叶剑飞（周润发饰）郁郁不得志，想偷渡去美国却不幸失败，在一场抢粮暴动中他结识了黄克强（万梓良饰）。黄克强与米商的女儿阿男（叶童饰）从小青梅竹马，但米商欲将女儿嫁给富家子弟。为逃婚米商女儿与叶剑飞、黄克强三人决定偷渡去美国，却又因战争爆发而失败。香港沦陷当晚，米商女儿遭巡警强奸，黄克强将巡警打死，米商终于准许黄克强娶其女儿。日军接管香港，叶剑飞竟当上了"日军太保"，意图藉此身份离开香港。经过一番波折，三人登上了难民船，却在中途遇上日军巡逻艇，使他们的行踪暴露了，叶剑飞牺牲自己让两人逃走。
